Lukman Setiawan, Former Editor-in-Chief at Bisnis Indonesia, Passes Away at 90

Bisnis, JAKARTA — Only three days after its 39th anniversary, Bisnis Indonesia received news that its former Editor-in-Chief, Lukman Setiawan, passed away just before midnight on Monday (12/16/2024) at 23:57 Singapore time at the age of 90. He will be laid to rest at Grand Heaven Pluit, North Jakarta.
Lukman was known for his work at Harian Kompas before becoming one of the people behind the birth of Tempo, which continues to publish investigative content to this day. Lukman also played a major role in founding Bisnis Indonesia, whose newspaper was first published on Saturday Kliwon, December 14, 1985.
Bisnis Indonesia’s journey began when businessman Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono sat down with media veteran Eric Samola, who was close with real estate mogul Ciputra. At the time, Sukamdani expressed his desire to establish a business-oriented newspaper similar to those in the United States or Singapore.
Eric Samola then formed an editorial team recruited from senior journalists at Tempo, including Amir Daud and Lukman Setiawan. Lukman and Amir became part of the first generation that laid the foundation for economic journalism at Bisnis Indonesia.
